Toni Morrison was born February 18, 1931 in Lorain, Ohio. Her parents are George Wofford and Ramah Willis Wofford. Toni Morrison grew up in a constantly misfortunate town. After high school Morrison accompanied Howard University. She received her degree in 1953 and then went on to Cornell University for her get the hang in English, which she received in 1955 (Toni Morrison 583).
        Morrison taught at both Texas southerly University and Howard University. While teaching at Howard University she met Harold Morrison, whom she would marry and would father her 2 children. In 1964 they got divorced and shortly after she began her career as an editor. During this time she worked her way up to senior editorship at stochastic Houses New York Headquarters. She taught at several colleges in the time amongst 1967 and 1988, like Yale, State University of New York, and Rutgers University (Toni Morrison 584).
        Morrison also had a career in publishing. Because of her position as editor she was able to realize the careers of many African Americans. With her help many writers were able to gather in their works published.
        In 1993 Toni Morrison became the first African American to grow the Nobel regard. In 1978 she received the National Book Critics Circle honor for her book Song of Solomon.
She was nominated for National Book gift in 1975 for the book Sula. For her book Beloved she received the Pulitzer Prize in 1988 (Toni Morrison 582).
